I lived with this piece of alabaster on my coffee table for several weeks. Sketching as I saw different things within it. However, the only idea that I could make fit the form of the stone was a couple of horses that were anatomically merged into one another. Part of my inspiration came from the book trilogy, Lord of the Rings: Arwen’s father Elrond summoned the river to swell and wash away the oncoming Nazgul. Gandalf added his flurry of magic by making the foam to manifest as white horses. When horses of the sea foam rise like this on beaches they are called, ‘Neptunes Horses’ after Walter Cranes Pre-Raphaelite painting ‘The Horses Of Neptune’.
