As alabaster is a translucent stone, the translucency is visible when the stone is wet. So, before I carve, I wipe the alabaster with a wet cloth and hold a strong light to its skin to reveal the internal structure. This stone was quite unusual. It was a conglomerate of spheres, each illuminated when the light shone above them. So, I carved out each sphere resulting in this sculpture.

I have been looking out ever since for an LED light system where each section could be lit with a different colour to show this natural feature but have so far been unsuccessful.
