Sculpture Information

I knew the original white alabaster stone had movement inside it, reaching upwards. I found this dancer had swathes of cloth blowing from his arms and legs. I called it ‘Lord of the Dance’ as it reminded me of Sydney Carter’s song where Jesus is the resurrected dancer. The type of stone, which according to consensus is basalt, on which the dancer stands was made into Sarcophaguses in Egyptian pyramids and tombs. So, this dancer is dancing upon a stone which symbolises death.  So this sculpture is a resurrection dance on a death stone.
