This piece of alabaster had a dark eye which I worked around eventually to form a horse’s head. I kept the marks made by the machinery that mined it from the ground as the horse’s hair. It is named Llamrei after a mare owned by King Arthur according to the Welsh tale ‘Culhwch and Olwen’. In the legend her hoof print etched a mark deep into the rock ‘Carn March Arthur’ when she pulled a monster (Addanc) from the lake.
