I use a technique called Direct Carving which follows the grain, form, and colour of the stone. Within this piece I could see the two intertwined spirals. However, on the rear there was one continuous spiral, but the two sides conflicted with one another. So, I smoothed out the rear to allow more light through.

The two swirls remind me of the tight interdependency in close relationships; The two becoming one. It was used in the background of Sky’s programme ‘Portrait Artist of the Year 2020’.
