Sculpture Information

In this alabaster I could see a masked face, like that of a superhero. Below the head the rock jutted out as if holding something. I carved down and found the form of a young female. But there was a floor, a small crack, around where the heart would be. It seemed right to keep it rather than try to sand it out. The rock was wide enough to incorporate a pair of wings. Then comes the title of the piece, Angelic rescue.

I felt that this piece was about a young girl who had passed away or was perhaps suffering from a heart condition and the angel was taking her to a better place. Rescuing her.

This piece was sold through a gallery to a lady who had recently lost her school age daughter. Unfortunately, I don’t know the story behind this mother’s loss, but I think this was made for her.
