Course Details
Escape for a weekend and discover the satisfaction of three-dimensional stone sculpture. This intensive course is designed to guide beginners through the entire process of carving a freestanding 3D form.
With a maximum of four persons, this intimate class ensures you receive extensive one-on-one instruction and support throughout the two days.
- Duration: Full Weekend (Saturday & Sunday, 9am–4pm daily).
- Included Stone: You will work on one of three beautiful limestones: Maltese Limestone (a cuboid starting block of 25cm x 20cm x 20cm), Cotswold Limestone, or Farmington Limestone (both provided as irregular shapes).
Program of Study
You will learn the core skills of the stonemason by focusing on the Profiling Method (used for accurate measurement and shape transfer) and the intuitive Direct Carving Technique.
The program covers every step of the sculpting journey:
- Preparation: Health & Safety introduction and an overview of the materials.
- Design: Drawing out your design and creating a clay maquette if necessary.
- Carving: Mastering the stonemason’s tools to outline, rough out, refine, and finish your piece.
Join us, bring your lunch, and leave on Sunday afternoon with your own finished 3D limestone carving. Drinks and refreshments will be provided.
